Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!! I'm excited to be teaching 6th grade English/Language Arts this year! I love teaching here at MMS and am looking forward to an exciting new school year! When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family; Morgan (my husband), Morgan, my son, and his wife Chelsea, Madison, my daughter, and her husband Zach, and Mason, my son. I also keep busy with Mason's baseball (he's a pitcher for Emporia State University GO HORNETS!!), loving on my puppies, going to Flea Markets with my husband, and crafting. As of December 7th, I now enjoy spending most of my free time loving my new granddaughter, Hayden Renee.

Time is flying by!! Hopefully, the sickness and cold weather will as well!! We are starting a new unit in our Collections Textbook; it deals with disaster. This week we will be working on academic vocabulary, reading an informational text and reviewing the different text structures that go along with the informational text. As you know, I have set a reading goal for each student at 20 books. They are allowed to choose any book they want to read. They are no rewards attached to this reading, nor is there any worksheet, log, report, or project related to the books they choose. I want my students to realize that reading is and can be fun and rewarding in itself. As always, please encourage your child to read as much as possible when he/she can. Children that read are shown to have higher intelligence and general knowledge, less stress, better fluency, improved analytical thinking, broader vocabulary, better memory and increased writing skills.
