School Safety

The tragedy in Florida reminds us all of the importance of safety and security in schools.  We want to assure our families that USD 263 has an updated school safety plan that has been created/ reviewed by the Mulvane Police Department.  In conjunction with our safety plan, our schools also have a specific protocol for entry into our buildings, and we appreciate the understanding of our parents as we enforce these protocols for the safety of our students.  The members of our staff have been trained on the specifics of this plan and our School Resource Officer (SRO), Officer Bohannon, will be conducting additional training and discussions with our staff and students. We are currently in the process of reassessing our plans with MPD, and everything is on the table for discussion.    

Mulvane is fortunate to have an SRO who is committed to your student's safety and a new commitment to cooperation with the leadership of Mulvane Police Department.  Your students will begin to notice an increased presence from the MPD in and around our schools.  USD 263 has extended an open invitation to our local police officers to come into our buildings and spend time with our students. 

We want to thank the parents who have reached out to us to share their thanks, concerns, and thoughts.  We would also like to thank the parents who appreciate that we, too, are affected and care deeply for every child. The safety of our students and staff is our No. 1 priority. We will continue to study, research and do our due diligence for the well-being of our children.
